Victoria’s Virtual Tennis Club was originated in April 1999 and has been operating since then as an active and energetic community-based tennis networking club, operating solely on public tennis facilities of which there is an abundance in the Greater Victoria area. Note that all VVTC website pages purposely operate with no advertizing.

Over half of the website is dedicated to providing information to the PUBLIC as well as Club members, such as a complete and comprehensive listing of all outdoor and indoor courts in the Greater Victoria area, including amenities and a quality rating for each. Additionally, information is available on the NTRP Rating System, Club Etiquette, and other Tennis Sites and Health News. Web linkages are in place for Tennis BC, Tennis Canada, U.S. Tennis Association, Recreation Centers, and local Sports Shops.

The remainder of the site is dedicated to MEMBERS only, allowing access to Club Members lists using search options of Singles or Doubles, NTRP Rating, Sex, Age Group, and Preferred Playing Times. Then you can sort these ‘custom called’ lists by NTRP Rating or Residency area, or both. Check weather and court availability, and you’re ready to arrange your match. Additionally, information is available on Club activities and upcoming events in the Victoria area, of either a Club or Public nature.

Victoria’s Virtual Tennis Club is a NON-PROFIT ASSOCIATION of tennis enthusiasts in the Victoria area operating on behalf of its members and the community as a whole. It is run by a group of volunteers as outlined below, with NO members receiving benefit financially. All membership fees and any other revenue have been and will be used solely for the purposes of VVTC and the community as a whole. The VVTC web-site development and construction, as well as the survey of all public court facilities, was arranged and paid for by community minded tennis enthusiasts originally involved in club formation.

The PURPOSES of VVTC are the following:

  1. to allow the public as well as members easy choice of public court locations for their use,
  2. to allow electronically networking between members of the club with a searchable database,
  3. to facilitate the arranging of tennis matches, clinics, recreational tournaments, and social events,
  4. to encourage greater communication and cooperation between tennis clubs in the greater Victoria area
  5. to nurture and encourage new recreational players
  6. to encourage greater public participation in this sport and the use of public courts and facilities.

AN ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING is held in March of each year, at which time the Managing Committee is elected for the following year, preferences for activities for the coming year are discussed, financial matters are tabled, and feedback is obtained for the betterment of the club and the community. Any changes to the purposed approved at any meeting may not have as their object any profit making activity.

MEMBERSHIP in VVTC allows tennis enthusiasts access to the right hand side of the web-site and participation in all of the club activities, as well as the novel right to act from time to time as a volunteer for one of our activities. Membership types are Full, Associate, or Visitor, as explained on the ‘Sign me Up’ page of the web-site. By becoming a member, all members agree to the purposes of the VVTC, agree to share in the functional tasks required to run the club, and accept the terms of the ‘Basis of Participation’.

The BASIS of PARTICIPATION as a member of VVTC or in the activities of VVTC … the VVTC assumes no legal responsibility for anyone who is a member or who participates in any of it’s activities, nor does it assume any responsibility for the condition of any facility which the members or participants may use. Because tennis requires a certain level of fitness and could involve injury, each member and participant assumes full responsibility for their participation in any club activities.

A simple principal in our operations will be that each and every activity in our club will be as much as possible SELF-SUSTAINING in the sense that the person responsible for running an activity will simply price it so revenue approximately covers costs. Shortfalls will be reimbursed, and Excesses will be turned over, by/to the Membership and Banking chairperson, where these exceed $10 or more. This simple principal ensures that we are not laden with organizational bureaucracy thereby detracting from the purposes of our club operations.

Finally, BUDGET and ACCOUNTING STATEMENTS of our operations are made available at our annual meetings and these are available to members and non-members alike.

We conclude this section with simple statements of our Club Mission, and our Victoria area Mission:

Our Club Mission: Our Victoria area Mission:
a] To emphasize sportsmanship rather than winning and recognized rankings a] To raise the overall level of interest and participation in recreational tennis throughout the Greater Victoria area
b] To promote relationship building through inclusivity of all and effective networking. b] To encourage and support those with advanced skills to additionally move on to more competitive venues
c] To nurture improvement of other's recreational tennis skills and strategies, at minimal cost c] To foster a higher level of cooperation and collaboration between area Clubs.
d] To foster kindness, fun, enjoyment and good health while enjoying tennis, a lifelong sport

A Managing committee, an elected body of 5 members, organizes the day-to-day activities of the VVTC. The following are the current members of the Managing committee.

  1. Terri Kirillo - Communication Coordinator - 995-8500
  2. Lynn Purves - Membership and Banking - 385-1895
  3. Marvin Sharpe - 385-3811
  4. Bruce Kerk-Hecker

Absolute importance is placed on the sensitive handling of any and all questions, opinions, and suggestions as discussed in the ‘Questions’ and ‘Suggestions box’ pages of the website. We fully realize that the continuing success of this club is predicated on the proper receipt, digestion, consideration, consensus, and action, on any and all of these questions, opinions, and suggestions, and every effort will be made to do this in a professional and dilligent manner.

Finally, the manner in which all club members conduct themselves, on and off the court, and the etiquette and courtesy that is shown for other club members is paramount to everyone’s success in this Club. Where disagreements or upsets occur, we encourage all of you to exercise your very best mediation and negotiation skills to maintain harmony, to resolve difficulties where they might occur, and most importantly to maintain relationships between each other. Where possible, we ask that you participate actively and contribute positively.
